Identify each appliance and find the correct manual
Record the brand, model, dimensions and any weight listed in the manufacturer’s documentation. Photograph the appliance and its visible connections without moving it unsafely to reach them. Explain whether it is freestanding, built-in, stacked, wall-mounted or connected to a water supply.
Find the exact model’s preparation, transport and installation instructions. Keep a copy accessible for the people doing the work. For example, Samsung Australia’s product support lets owners find manuals by model; use your own manufacturer’s support service for other brands.

Schedule fridge and freezer preparation
Plan the food separately from the appliance. Avoid a last-minute rush to empty a full freezer while the crew is waiting. Choose a practical final-use time, then follow the model’s instructions for switching off, defrosting, cleaning and drying where required.
Ask how shelves, drawers and other removable parts should be secured or packed for transport. Tell JB if the fridge has a water or ice connection, unusual doors or a fragile finish. Agree who will prepare it and when it will be ready; do not assume the removal crew can complete unbooked connection work.
Record the restart instructions before the manual disappears into a box. There is no single waiting period suitable for every fridge and every transport situation. Keep the food plan independent of an assumed immediate restart at the destination.
Check washing machine and dryer transport requirements
Find the washing machine’s transport section before its last use. Some models require transit bolts or other specific restraints; ask the manufacturer which parts apply to yours and how they must be fitted and later removed. Do not substitute improvised fittings or run the machine with transport restraints still installed.
Arrange any required draining, drying and preparation using the manual and an appropriate professional where needed. A machine that looks empty can still require preparation. Let JB know if fittings are missing or the appliance cannot be made ready on schedule.
For a stacked dryer and washer, describe the complete arrangement, including the stacking kit and connections. Confirm who separates the units and reinstalls them. Treat the stack as an assessment item, not as two ordinary loose appliances ready to carry.
Separate trade appointments from the removal booking
Identify built-in dishwashers, gas appliances, hard-wired equipment and other connected items early. Arrange a suitably qualified professional for specialist disconnection or installation. Do not loosen gas, electrical or unfamiliar plumbing connections yourself as part of packing.
Set out three handovers: the appliance is prepared and released for collection; the removal team transports and places the agreed item; the appropriate person completes installation and checks at the new home. Confirm who owns each step and when they will attend.
If the preparatory appointment is delayed, tell JB before collection. An appliance that remains connected or built into cabinetry may not be ready for the agreed move. For temporary accommodation or a timing gap, review the moving and storage-gap plan and discuss appliance suitability separately.
Check the route and the destination space
Measure the appliance as it will be transported, including projecting handles or fittings where relevant. Share the narrowest openings, stair turns, lift dimensions and carrying distances at both addresses. Include a photo of the destination recess rather than only the front door.
Check the manufacturer’s space and ventilation requirements as well as the physical opening. Having room to slide an appliance into a recess does not establish that it can be installed correctly. Confirm the destination’s connections and any required installer visit.

Keep a written readiness and restart checklist
Use one line per appliance with the model, preparation owner, ready-by time, transport instructions, destination and installer contact. Keep the manual and small parts labelled to the same item. If a task is incomplete, mark it clearly and contact the relevant person.
- Before pickup: confirm the agreed preparation is complete and disclose any leaks, damage or faults.
- At handover: identify loose parts, manuals and any special transport instructions.
- At delivery: check the appliance is in the agreed position and account for the parts.
