1-Tonne Optical Table Installation at the University of Sydney
From a timber transport crate to laboratory installation: a three-person JB team handled a one-tonne optical table, installed and adjusted its pneumatic supports, and removed the crate after completing the half-day job.

Heavy scientific equipment, delivered into a working laboratory
JB Removals completed the handling and installation of a one-tonne optical table at the University of Sydney. The table arrived in a substantial timber crate and required both heavy moving equipment and attention to its final support arrangement inside the laboratory.
The photographs show a DAEIL SYSTEMS optical table with a perforated metal working surface and deep black body. Unlike ordinary furniture, this equipment was supplied with pneumatic legs, adding a separate installation and adjustment stage to the job.
JB used a three-person crew and a HIAB-equipped truck, together with portable lifting and positioning equipment for the work inside the building. The half-day scope included unpacking, positioning, installing and adjusting the table on its pneumatic supports, followed by removal and disposal of the transport crate.
The equipment used for the optical table move
HIAB-equipped truck
Crane-truck handling formed part of the delivery operation before the final laboratory installation.
Portable hydraulic workshop crane
The red wheeled workshop crane shown in the photos provided lifting equipment for the indoor handling stage.
High-lift scissor pallet jack
The yellow high-lift equipment supported the tabletop during positioning and installation inside the laboratory.
Straps, padding and timber packing
Securing straps, blue padding, protective pads and timber packing are visible around the crated equipment.
Handling the crated table through campus access
The transport crate was part of the handling challenge. Its size and orientation needed to be managed alongside the table itself, with equipment available for the move from the access area into the laboratory.
The preparation photographs show the timber crate secured with orange straps and blue protective padding. They also show the crew working around the crate with the pallet jack and workshop crane nearby.
Unpacking and preparing for laboratory placement
Once the crated equipment reached the laboratory, JB managed the unpacking and preparation for the installation stage. The photographs show the crew working around the crate, handling the straps and protective materials, and using the portable crane in the available space between the laboratory benches.
Moving from transport protection to installation support
The job required a transition from a protected transport load to a supported tabletop ready for placement on its pneumatic legs. JB combined the crew's coordination with the indoor handling equipment rather than treating the delivery as a simple drop-off.
Installing and adjusting the pneumatic supports
The optical table's pneumatic legs formed a distinct part of the installation. JB positioned the table, installed it on its pneumatic supports and carried out the adjustment required for the agreed placement.
Pneumatic vibration-isolation supports are designed to reduce the transfer of surrounding vibration to sensitive equipment. For this project, the moving scope extended through mechanical installation and support adjustment in the laboratory. Read DAEIL SYSTEMS’ general pneumatic-support information.
Controlled positioning inside the laboratory
The supplied photographs show the optical tabletop raised on high-lift scissor equipment while the JB team works alongside it. This supported arrangement provided access for the positioning and installation work around the table.
Crate removal and disposal after installation
The delivery packaging was removed and disposed of after the job. That final stage brought the timber crate and associated transport materials out of the laboratory after the table installation, so the packaging was included in the completed moving scope.
Repeat optical-table work at the University of Sydney
JB has handled several optical-table projects at the University of Sydney over the years. This job adds another example of the team's experience with heavy laboratory equipment, where transport, access, unpacking and final placement need to be considered together.
The three-person crew completed this half-day installation with the table positioned on its pneumatic supports and the crate removed. The case study shows how a heavy equipment delivery can extend through the final mechanical installation stage.
Optical table movers and laboratory equipment relocation in Sydney
For laboratories arranging an optical table move, the full scope matters: the packed dimensions, known weight, receiving access, support components, intended position and packaging removal all help define the job.
This project supports JB's heavy moving services in Sydney with a specific example of scientific equipment handling and laboratory installation. The crew and equipment for another move are assessed around that table and its access requirements.
Planning an optical table or laboratory equipment move?
Send JB the equipment name and model, weight, dimensions, crate details, photographs and access at both locations. Include the pneumatic supports and final placement requirements, and advise whether the transport crate needs to be removed.
