REAL JB PROJECT · SPECIALIST HANDLING
500kg Commercial Machine Stair Descent
Marrickville · approx. 30-metre route · 10-hour operation
Restricted head clearance required the 500kg machine to travel down a long stepped route. JB built a custom ramp and combined specialised rollers, a haul-back restraint system, rear counterbalancing lifts and Hercules support to control the descent.

The complete handling method
A route dictated by height clearance
The commercial machine weighed approximately 500 kg. Limited overhead clearance ruled out a conventional upright move. The workable route took the load down approximately 30 metres of stepped access.
A full day built around preparation
The project occupied approximately 10 hours on site, with the day devoted to route preparation, ramp construction and the controlled move. JB assessed the machine’s dimensions and balance, the stair gradient, overhead clearance, transitions and the working positions needed to support and restrain the load.
Building a continuous ramp
The individual steps could not provide a suitable rolling surface for a machine of this weight. JB custom-built a continuous ramp over the staircase and aligned each section along the route. This gave the specialised rollers a controlled surface and protected the tiles beneath.
Holding back and counterbalancing 500 kg
A dedicated restraint system held the load back from above so gravity could not accelerate the machine down the incline. Specialised lifting equipment at the rear counterbalanced the weight, while Hercules supported the machine as the crew advanced it progressively along the ramp.
The controlled Marrickville descent
The team coordinated the restraint, rear lift, rollers and Hercules support through each section of the route, pausing to check alignment and clearance before continuing. After approximately 10 hours of preparation and controlled handling, the 500 kg machine reached the lower work area safely.
