REAL JB PROJECT · MARBLE & RESTRICTED STAIR ACCESS
450 kg Marble Bench Relocation Over Stairs in Sydney
A sweeping curved marble bench weighing 450 kg, moved through a confined stair route.
JB Removals relocated this substantial marble bench over stairs in Sydney. Its long, curved shape added another layer of difficulty to the weight: the team had to manage the bench’s position and support within a narrow passage.
The project photographs show the stair ramp, protective blankets, securing straps and a wheeled stone-handling frame used during the move. Each transition mattered, from the staircase to handling the bench in the outdoor area.

THE PROJECT
Moving a 450 kg marble bench over Sydney stairs
This was a specialist stone relocation involving a sculptural, curved marble bench. At 450 kg, the load required a planned handling arrangement, while its length and open curved profile shaped how it could pass through the available space.
The stair route ran between walls, with limited room beside the bench. The photos show a ramp laid across the concrete staircase and the protected marble bench occupying much of the passage during handling.
The combination of heavy stone, an unusual shape and restricted access made this a distinctive heavy lifting project in Sydney. The team’s work extended beyond the stair section to the changes in support and orientation required along the wider route.
WHAT MADE IT CHALLENGING
Heavy marble, a sweeping curve and limited clearance
A substantial stone load
The confirmed bench weight was 450 kg. Managing its support remained central during movement, transfers and positioning on the handling equipment.
A long, curved bench
The bench’s sweeping form required space beyond a simple rectangular footprint. Its ends and edges needed attention as the load passed through the confined route.
A staircase between walls
The passage restricted the working space around the load. The ramp, bench and crew all had to fit within the access available.
The photographs make the access problem clear: the bench’s protected body extends along the ramp, leaving limited clearance beside the surrounding walls. This was a job where the route and the item’s shape had to be considered together.
THE HANDLING APPROACH
Protection and specialist handling along the stair route
Working with the full access route
The supplied photographs record both the concrete staircase and the adjoining indoor and outdoor spaces. These areas formed one continuous handling challenge for the long marble bench.
Protecting the marble during handling
Quilted moving blankets covered the bench during the stair and wheeled-frame stages. Securing straps are visible around the protected load, with additional blankets laid in the outdoor handling area.
Using a ramp across the stairs
A long ramp spanned the concrete staircase. The photos show the covered bench on this ramp within the passage, with JB crew attending the load at the upper end of the stair route.
Managing changes in support and position
Other views show the bench supported upright on a yellow wheeled stone-handling frame. The transition between the stair route and the wheeled handling stage was part of moving the unusually shaped stone item.
Completing the bench relocation
JB completed the move of the 450 kg marble bench over stairs. The photo set also includes unwrapped views of the curved bench, showing the distinctive stone piece behind the protective coverings.

THE COMPLETED PROJECT
A distinctive marble bench relocation in Sydney
JB’s completed relocation brought together a 450 kg marble load, a long curved shape and a confined stair route. The photographs capture the protection and handling arrangements used to manage that combination.
This project demonstrates why specialist removalists consider the item’s dimensions and shape alongside its weight. For heavy stone furniture, the staircase is one part of the complete route, and the transfers between handling stages deserve equal attention.

Can a 450 kg marble bench be moved over stairs?
This JB project involved that weight and a confined staircase. A different bench requires its own assessment of shape, support and access before the handling method can be confirmed.
What details help JB assess a heavy stone move?
Provide the weight, overall dimensions, clear photos of the item and its base, and photos or video of the complete route at collection and delivery.
What equipment was shown on this project?
The supplied photographs show a stair ramp, protective blankets, securing straps and a wheeled stone-handling frame. Equipment for another job will depend on its individual requirements.
Why does the bench’s curve matter?
A long curved item occupies space differently from a rectangular load. Its shape affects clearance through a passage and the room available during handling transitions.
