REAL JB PROJECT · COMMERCIAL OVEN & RESTRICTED ACCESS
1.1-Tonne Pizza Oven Relocation: Old to New Sydney Fish Market
A 1,100 kg commercial pizza oven that could no longer leave the building upright.
JB Removals relocated this pizza oven from the old Sydney Fish Market to the new Fish Market with a four-person crew. The oven had been installed before a new roller door, and the available opening no longer allowed an upright exit.
Our team custom-built a timber support frame and used a gantry-assisted handling arrangement to reinforce the oven for tilting. At the destination, it had to be returned upright and manoeuvred into tight spaces.

THE ACCESS PROBLEM
The oven went in before the new roller door
The most important detail in this commercial pizza oven relocation was the order in which the premises had changed. The oven had originally been installed before the new roller door. By the time it needed to be moved, it could not pass through the available opening in its upright position.
At 1.1 tonnes, changing the oven’s orientation was a substantial handling task. It also had to remain supported during the extraction and transport stages, then be brought upright again at the new Sydney Fish Market.
JB’s four-person crew worked with a custom timber frame, gantry equipment and mechanical handling support to complete the relocation. The challenge involved both properties, rather than ending once the oven cleared the first doorway.
CUSTOM PREPARATION
A purpose-built frame for a delicate oven relocation
The team built a frame around the oven to reinforce and support it for the tilt. The photographs show timber members arranged around the body, securing straps and a gantry with chain hoists above the load.
This preparation addressed the oven as a complete, heavy commercial appliance. Its body needed a supported handling arrangement when changing orientation, while the crew also had to consider the restricted route out of the premises.
A load of 1,100 kg
The oven’s weight called for mechanical support during the move. Tilting and returning it upright were distinct stages in the relocation.
A changed exit route
The new roller door prevented an upright exit. The handling method needed to suit the available opening at the time of removal.
Tight destination access
At the new Fish Market, the oven needed to return to its upright position and be manoeuvred through confined spaces.
THE RELOCATION SEQUENCE
Custom framing, gantry-assisted tilting and destination placement
Building the timber support frame
JB constructed timber framing for the oven before the restricted extraction. The preparation photograph shows a crew member assembling the frame beside the commercial appliance, followed by images of the framing fitted around its body.
Supporting the oven with the gantry
The gantry and chain-hoist setup formed part of the supported handling arrangement. Securing straps and protective contact pads are visible in the photographs, alongside the custom frame used for the move.
Tilting to overcome the roller-door restriction
With the oven unable to leave upright, the crew used the reinforced setup to tilt it for extraction. This was the delicate transition that made the route possible: changing the load’s orientation while maintaining mechanical support.
Loading and transport between the Fish Market sites
Once outside the old Fish Market, the supported oven moved into the loading stage. The supplied photos show forklift assistance beside the flatbed truck, followed by the oven on the vehicle for transport.
Returning the oven upright in a confined destination
At the new Fish Market, JB returned the oven to its upright orientation and worked through the tight destination spaces. The receiving photographs show the custom frame retained around the appliance with forklifts assisting the handling stage.

THE COMPLETED RELOCATION
A 1.1-tonne pizza oven moved between Sydney Fish Market sites
JB relocated the oven with four crew members, using custom framing and gantry-assisted handling to address the roller-door restriction. The move continued through transport to the new Fish Market, where the oven was brought upright again and positioned through tight access.
The job demonstrates why commercial oven moving can require a handling plan for changes in orientation at both ends of the journey. The doorway, appliance and final destination all shaped the method.

What if an oven no longer fits through the exit?
This project required a supported tilt because the oven could not leave upright through the new roller-door opening. Share clear photos and measurements of the appliance and current access so JB can assess your situation.
Why was a custom frame built around this oven?
The frame reinforced and supported the appliance for its change in orientation. It formed part of this specific handling arrangement alongside the gantry equipment.
What should I provide for a commercial oven quote?
Send the oven’s weight and dimensions, make/model if known, collection and destination details, current doorway clearances and photographs or video of both access routes.
Does final orientation matter at the destination?
Yes. This oven needed to be brought upright again and moved through tight spaces. Include the required final orientation and placement area in your enquiry.
